I read a criticism of bloggers -- it was a rather stupid red/blue analysis -- yesterday for not writing about the incredible human disaster faced by those poor people who suffered the tidal wave and are now suffering from its aftermath. I've written nothing, and though part of that was due to billing issues with TypePad and my stupid credit card handlers, mostly it was that I simply didn't know what to say.
I admire those people who have established disaster relief forces and charities in advance, and who have already mobilized, and I think I recognize the disproportionate focus on the UN ninny for calling the USA "stingy" as a normal desire to turn away from the horror and instead focus on an old, comfortable fight. The same emotional reflex is at work with the blame-global-warming crowd and the laugh-at-those-who-blame-global-warming crowd. Anything but face the horror.
But the horror...
Carpe diem, my friends. Hug your little ones tight, and tell your wife you love her. You never know when the giant wave is heading for you.
