Lots of talk about the problem, lots of name calling, and the Senate hell bent on a train wreck. But what do we want? Few spell out a solution. This is what I want.
- A wall at the southern border with Army patrol - addresses 2/3 of the illegal entry problem. Our border control should be as absolute as physically possible.
- A biometric ID - addresses 1/3 of the illegal entry (over-stay) problem, and will close the employer "Hey, his ID looked good to me" loop hole.
- As many immigrants as we need, maybe 2 million a year, from all over the world, but no more from Central America for some time, a long time. We have enough from that region -- too many -- and they're forming pockets rather than assimilating. This is not cruelty to Mexico, but compassion for the rest of the world and recognition that enough is enough. New immigrants must post a bond for their return if they fail to learn English and American history in a reasonable time, are convicted of a felony or two misdemeanors, or end up on the public dole. Swim or go home.
- Automatic citizenship for all immigrant men and women serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
- An invitation to any service men and women from the coalition of the willing -- Poland, UK, Australia, Japan, Italy, and... Mongolia!
- No guest worker program.
- No mass deportation of those who have already abused our hospitality. I don't blame them for trying, and we're just not going to go door to door rounding them up. I'm OK with a long term path to naturalization, with the learning English and the fine, but if they don't step up or if they're convicted of a crime or if they end up on the dole, out they go. This will mean deporting lots of people, maybe a million, and it will be painful and ugly. However, after the first hundred thousand have been sent home, the rest will get serious about our requirements. And we DO have the right to set our requirements.
But please, not this.
What say ye?
I've linked to this. Love the nephew's comment too.
