Driving home from work last night, listening to the Hugh Hewitt Show as usual nowadays, Christopher Hitchens author of God is Not Great - How Religion Poisons Everything as on with Hugh and some Protestant religious guy who has written about the historic authenticity of the gospel compared to the historic authenticity of everything else, you know, historical.
The real meat of the conversation was disappointing. How many ways are there to say "Why would God do it that way?" followed by "I have faith and/or the will of God is incomprehensible to man, and this is what it is."
What was great about it was here you had two very well educated men from two widely differing traditions with a skilled moderator having a lively yet respectful talk, almost but not quite a debate, honest and willing to admit ignorance on some points and consider the other's point -- in short, the exact opposite of what we have with public politics and public discourse today. It was refreshing.
Hitchens, for the record, kicked butt unless you think faith trumps all.
