Listening to Morning in America with Bill Bennett on my way to work this morning, I learned from Louisiana Senator David Vitter that the immigration bill must pass two more cloture votes, and that there are a number of Senators who might be up for grabs including, incredibly, my own Senator Nelson (D - Florida). The others are Senators Coleman, Bond, Pryor, Ensign, Webb, Brownback, and Burr. If any of them are yours, please give them a call.
My letter to Senator Nelson:
Dear Senator Nelson,
Please do whatever is necessary to stop the current immigration bill from passing. My reason for urging you to vote against cloture is simple and sad:
I don’t trust my government to fulfill its promises.
If you could pass enforcement first, and if the federal government proved its trustworthiness, then I’d be willing to discuss wholesale reformation of immigration. But until then, please block the bill.
